Walk on Water with Waterbikes

mandurah waterbike hire

Mandurah’s pristine estuary is waiting to be explored ~ and Mandurah Waterbike hire is the coolest way to do it! Step aboard a sleek catamaran cycle and you’ll see the sights and be seen, while cruising through Mandjar Bay.

Are they a boat or a bike? Well, they are both! They’re a bike upon two floating pontoons. Riding one, feels like walking on water! Being pedal-powered, means they are great for the environment.

You will move across the water with hardly any resistance ~ pedal gently and glide along the bay. Or dial it up a notch to race your friends ~ and Mandurah’s friendly dolphins.

Pro cycling skills aren’t necessary; Waterbikes are a blast regardless of your fitness levels. They’re suitable for ages 7+ or 120cm+.

The high-performance Waterbikes can be hired for 30 minutes or an hour, giving you a fresh perspective on our beautiful part of the world.

close encounters

Our beautiful Bottlenose dolphins are curious creatures and love to play alongside our Mandurah Waterbikes. While we can’t guarantee sightings, our dolphins often show off their smart and cheeky ways. So keep your eyes peeled!

Our Waterbikes are eco-friendly and whisper quiet, with no motors or paddles ~ so you won’t scare away local birdlife or dolphins.

We did this today as a family of 5. Thoroughly enjoyed it and saw lots of dolphins in the canals. Fantastic experience!jo williams, facebook review

The minimum age to travel without an adult is 15 years+. Children 14 years and under must travel with an adult (18+ years).

Children need to be 7 years old or at least 120cm tall to ride the Waterbikes ~ otherwise they won’t be able to reach the pedals. If you’re visiting with children under 120cm tall, we recommend our Dolphin Cruise & Views tour or a Mandurah BBQ Boats’ experience ~ two exciting ways to explore Mandurah’s waterways and see our beautiful dolphins.

You need to be able to tread water for 30 minutes before you can hire a Mandurah Waterbike.

When you arrive, we will give you a lifejacket and ensure you are safe. Unlike bikes and stand-up paddleboards, the Waterbikes’ catamaran design make them incredibly stable, so it is highly unlikely you would enter the water. We suggest using a lifejacket as a precaution.

The speed of your bike depends on how fast you pedal, but they can make a top speed of 15km/hr. On average, they travel 5-6 km/hr. The faster you go, the more of a workout it is, but at top speed you can almost keep up with a gently cruising dolphin!

We recommend bringing only the bare essentials. A life jacket will be provided. We can provide a dry bag for essentials, but recommend leaving valuables behind.

Your feet will get wet when getting on and off the Waterbike, so watershoes or sandals are most ideal.

We suggest also bringing:

  • water
  • sunhat
  • sunscreen
  • sunglasses
  • warm top (it can get cool on the water)

When you hire a Mandurah Waterbike, it’s up to you where you ride. You will need to steer well clear of boats and rocks at the side ~ apart from that, it’s your call!

We provide you with a route map with a suggested course. In one hour, you may:

  • Cycle up to the historic Halls Cottage, Mandurah’s oldest building, and back, admiring the architecturally-designed War Memorial and park, a lovely bay-side location
  • Head across the bay into the gorgeous Marina, with its array of traditional fishing boats, luxury yachts, and quirky houseboats, unique to Mandurah
  • Cycle through the canals to see perfectly sheltered waters and luxury homes fringing the waterways, where you can wave to the friendly residents
  • Complete a loop then head back into the bay, past friendly pelicans at Stingray Point and under the historic Moreton Bay Fig Tree ~ beautiful when viewed from a Waterbike
  • Hopefully encounter some friendly dolphin escorts along the way. Our dolphins are completely wild and unafraid of the bikes. Just remember, please don’t try and feed them ~ it is illegal!
